We enjoy this large scale because it is possible to do so much super detailing, and because they are so impressive when displayed.

The standard for a long time has been the wonderful Tamiya kits. There are a few nice pieces done by Protar also. The cost of producing these large kits has caused Tamiya to pretty much end their production and they have not developed a new kit for several years having turned instead to making large-scale remote control kits.

There are about 25-30 nice 1/12 cars available, some more rare than others depending on the history of their re-release over time. These are mostly Formula One and Porsches including the 934, 935, and the 910.

A number of manufacturers are now making limited production large scale kits in resin and metal.  We have a few photos of the Ferrari312PB for example, which is limited to 500 pieces worldwide.

Recently we have acquired 1/12th kits of a ”D” type jaguar, an Aston Martin DB, a Ferrari 250LM, Ferrari 375 Plus (1954 LeMans winner), and a Ferrari 250 TR. We have heard rumors of a 1/12th Porsche 917 Longtail coming soon also. As we build these kits, we will update the web site so you will know how good they are and what is new on the large-scale scene. Because of the nice size and detailing possibilities, we have chosen to do our exclusive kits in 1/12th scale. This includes the GT40 MK IV, and the next project, the Chaparral 2A.

The prices of 1/12th cars vary considerably for several reasons. The rarity of the kit effects our cost. The complexity of the kits varies of good deal, and the amount of detail requested by the client changes the total build and research time involved.

“Customizing” the existing kit into another version requires making new decals from scratch and often changes the paint scheme. The general range for my work in the large scale is from $1,000.00 to over $10,000.00. Again, Dennis is very pleased to consider building your kit, which will of course effect the final price.

We usually suggest “maxing out” a big scale car with such additions as aluminum plated chassis, full engine detailing, burned pipes, instrument wiring, seat belts etc., but we can do display models without the engine bay being fully revealed if you desire.
